A STORY IN STONE

The building you will be staying in was most likely used as a combination of home and animal lodging, built sometime near the beginning of the 20th century.The name given to the cottage was born out of our battle to create the foundations for the new bedroom and to create the back garden space. The maddening number and massive size of the rocks that needed to be extracted (on display around the property) should help you understand why Pedras Loucas was chosen; it translates literally into Crazy Rocks... We have tried as much as possible to be faithful to the original construction (70cm thick walls of stone & adobe) in this restoration, improving only where needed (insulation for example: walls, floors and ceilings).We complained a lot, but it was truly a labour of love....see for yourself.
